The top is adorned with a tiny white satin bow, and the bonnet ties under the chin with narrow white satin ribbon. The tradition is for a baby girl to wear this as a christening cap. Saved as an heirloom, a few stitches are clipped so it reverts to a beautiful linen hanky to be carried by the bride on her wedding day. What a lovely tradition!
