Heirloom Christening Gown: Heirloom Baby Dresses
Purchased at the Portobello Market in London, this exquisite Edwardian linen gown was hand made in the early 1900s. It features delicate lace insertion and pintucks on the front yoke with a lace trimmed neckline. It has a 2 buttons with hand made loops for a back closure and, typical of the time, has a string tie to adjust the neck. The long sleeves are finished with lace. The very full skirt falls softly from the yoke and is adorned with rows of pintucks, lace insertion, and elaborate whitework embroidery. . Lace rosettes centered with tiny pink ribbon rossetes accent the yoke. The neckline and the long sleeves are finished with soft white lace. The dress closes in the back with a single small button and is finished with a scalloped lace trimmed hem topped by delicate white embroidery.
